Jules Massenet
About Jules Massenet
Jules Massenet, a French composer born in 1842, forged a deep friendship with Prince Albert I. Many of his operas were created in Monaco: Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame in 1902, Chérubin in 1905, Thérèse in 1907, Don Quixote in 1910, Roma in 1914, Cléopâtre in 1914 and Amadis in 1922. As part of the commemorations marking the centenary of Albert I’s death, the Belle Epoque music of Monaco will be showcased by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra throughout the 2021/2022 season. The high point will be a memorial concert in the Royal Courtyard at the Prince’s Palace, during which La Nef triomphale, a work specially created by Massenet for the opening of the Oceanographic Museum in 1910, will be performed.
