With a dreamy image, a bath of clouds where the intaglio hermitage of San Marcial emerges, is issued the block sheet that this year Correos dedicates to the celebration of the 60th edition of the National Philatelic Exhibition, better known by its acronym, EXFILNA.
Between 21 and 25 September 2022, the most important event in the sector will be held at FICOBA, the Gipuzkoa Exhibition Centre, in Irun.
The people of Irun will be able to visit the different collections that will compete in the Spanish Philatelic Championship, divided into three categories: official, master and competition. As well as the Innova Sello exhibition, which brings together several of the innovations in stamps in recent years.
Since 1964, the EXFILNA has become an unmissable event which, under the honorary presidency of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain and with the organisation of the Federation of Philatelic Societies and the Spanish Post Office, will travel around Spain to raise awareness of Philately and its importance in the development of history.
In addition, this 2022, together with the EXFILNA, the 6th ECC will be held, where several stands of traders will show all kinds of philatelic novelties and antiques. In short, this 2022 Irun will be the centre of philatelic collecting for a few days and, due to its special geographical location, we will be in a privileged environment.
This year, 2022, marks the five hundredth anniversary of the first battle of San Marcial, a battle that took place between the Peña Aldabe (today San Marcial mountain) and the Behobia or Gazteluzar castle. Those times were a time of wars and border tensions, but today we wish to commemorate these historical events with cultural dynamism and peace, seeking cross-border connections and knowledge of our common heritage.
