About 40 Years of the 1982 Floods

The intense rains of November 7 and 8, 1982 caused one of the most tragic episodes in the recent history of the Principality: the overflow of the Valira and Segre rivers. These rains also affected the Catalan regions of Alt Urgell and Cerdanya, as well as most of the municipalities through which the Segre passes.

The rainy episode began on November 6, 1982 and unexpectedly intensified the next day. The rivers could not absorb all the water and the riverbeds overflowed their banks over the next few hours, washing away cars, buses, bridges and entire buildings. Heavy rains were present in all corners of the country.

The storm overflowed the rivers and caused 26 deaths.

The stamp is a watercolor work by Arnau Orobitx in which hope is called, something beautiful in memory of those rains, of that water that took lives ahead. It is a tribute to water as life, hope.
