About Turning Point - The Battle of El Alamein

Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to present this stamp issue commemorating the Battle of El Alamein (23 October – 4 November 1942), a key battle as part of the North Africa campaign of WW2 and subsequent Allied victory over the Axis forces. The battle featured extensive deployment of local soldiers through The Manx Regiment, whom we wish to honour though this set.

We are honoured to have collaborated with Ivor Ramsden MBE, Director of the Manx Aviation & Military Museum, to create a set of stamps commemorating this historic battle and honouring the Manx Regiment that fought bravely in it.

The Battle of El Alamein (second battle), was one of the most decisive victories in World War II. It was fought between two of the best commanders in World War II, Montgomery for the Allies and Rommel for the Axis between 23 October – 4 November 1942. The victory of the Allies at El Alamein lead to the surrender of the German forces in North Africa in 1943.
