About Madame De la Fayette
Marie-Madeleine Pioche de La Vergne, better known as Madame de La Fayette, is one of the greatest female authors of the 17th century. Coming from the lower nobility, the young girl was introduced as a teenager to fashionable literary salons thanks to the friendship of Madame de Sévigné. She stands out for her curiosity, her culture and her intelligence. There she frequented the fine minds of her 'distinguished there at times, notably the future Duchess of Orléans, Henrietta of England, whose biography she wrote, the moralist La Rochefoucauld, who became a close friend, or even the socialite grammarian Gilles Household, with which she makes her first steps in Latin, Spanish and Italian.
