About Fauna: Eagles

Eagles belong to the hawk family. Accipitridae. There are two main groups of eagles. 1. Land eagles, which have leg feathers that extend downward to the toes, and 2. Sea eagles, which have leg feathers extending only halfway to the toes. The most familiar North American eagles are the golden eagle, a land eagle; and the bald eagle.

The Harpy eagle and the Philippine Eagle have wings that spread 2.5m across and they use their massive sharp talons to kill and carry off prey as large as deer and monkeys.

To defend their territories and attract a mate, bald eagles put on spectacular aerial displays including death-defying swoops and seemingly dogfights that involve locking talons with another bird and free-falling in a spiral.
