About Lunar New Year – Year of the Dog 2018

The third issue in our Lunar New Year stamp series celebrates the lunar Wuxu year (2018) which is the Year of the Dog. In Chinese culture, dogs represent dedication to hard work, loyalty and faithfulness. People love them and they are considered to be good friends to humans. People born in the year of the Wuxu dog are serious and have a responsible attitude towards work. They are born with a good nature and are always ready to help others. The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New year or the Spring Festival, is the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar and is celebrated by Chinese and ethnic communities around the world. The Chinese animal zodiac is a repeating cycle of twelve years, with each year being represented by an animal and its reputed attributes. Traditionally these zodiac animals were used to date the years together with ten heavenly stems and are in a fixed order. New Year festivities traditionally start on the first day of the month and continue until the fifteenth, when the moon is brightest. The lantern festival is held on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month and marks the end of the Chinese New Year. The stamp and Miniature Sheet have been designed by Wang Huming in Beijing, China. Chinese collectors have continuously elected Wang Huming as their most loved stamp artist and he has won numerous awards and prizes for his outstanding work.
