About Science - Biomedical Research in Spain

Taking into account that about 30 or 40 years ago, biomedical research in Spain was almost an anecdote, it can be said that today our country occupies a remarkable place in this field. The number of medical societies has grown and has been acquiring greater importance in our country, especially due to the high professional quality of its members. The ultimate goal of biomedical research is to save lives. It is important that the knowledge generated from health research be applied to the treatment and prevention of diseases and also to improve the health and quality of life of the population. Science, research and technology are the fundamental ways to progress and, without progress, there is no well-being. Although there are numerous research channels in Spain, there are four that have experienced the most significant advances. We are talking about genetics, oncology, neurosciences and immunology. Thanks to these professionals who dedicate their lives to trying to save the lives of others, they fight for the hope of a better future, with a healthier population, they advance to what is known as personalized medicine, that is, specific treatments for each patient, who would achieve greater results. Correos dedicates a stamp to the Biomedical Research, in recognition of this work whose recipients are all, the sick people but also the healthy ones that thanks to their research we can prevent many diseases. The stamp includes three very significant images, which summarize what biomedical research in general entails: a medical gown with a stethoscope representing the doctor who cures and takes care of us, a researcher doing her job and a child, who symbolizes health and future of humanity. Glass jars accompany this composition as a metaphor for the results of these investigations.
