The Comptes Chèques Postaux (CCP) service was launched in Luxembourg on 1 October 1911 by the then Director-General of Finances, Mr Mathias Mongenast, who was in charge of postal, telegraph, and telephone services.
The introduction of such a service in Luxembourg and elsewhere had its roots at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century in a time of monetary shortage and need for capital. To convince the population to have confidence in bank accounts, the creators of the CCP offered a free service. The future would prove them right: the CCP has seen rapid growth, backed by the existence of numerous postal counters across the country, the creation in 1909 in Berlin of the International System of Postal Transfers, the progressive opening up of international postal transfers between Luxembourg and Germany, Belgium and Switzerland in 1912 as well as the concern of the population, in the context of two world wars, to entrust their assets to state institutions.
Even today, the CCP attracts many clients thanks to a very advantageous tariff policy and a large range of products.
These are constantly modified to meet technological advances and the market needs.
The centennial year of the CCP is marked by a number of special events (competition, cruise, etc.), the relaunch of the e-banking website, CCP Connect, and the launch of new VISA cards: Gold and Prestige.
