About Institut Grand Ducal - Arts and Letters Section

The fifth of six sections of the Institut Grand-Ducal was formed in 1962 by Grand Ducal order on the initiative of then Minister of Arts and Sciences, Pierre Grégoire. The goal of the section is to cultivate arts and letters and to encourage all other artistic and cultural activities. The number of active members is limited to 39.
The section is divided into six sub-sections: “French literature”, “German literature”, “Luxembourg literature”, “Music”, “Theatre, Dance, Cinema and Media” and “Plastic Arts and Architecture”.
To be admitted as an active member, one must be nominated by at least two active members. The request for admission is submitted to a vote at a meeting of active members. To be elected, the candidate must receive two-thirds of the votes cast.

Pit Nicolas was born on 17 April 1939 in Luxembourg. After studying in Nancy, Paris and Vienna, he became a professor of art education at the Athénée de Luxembourg in 1969 and also a professor at the Institut Supérieur d’Etudes et de Recherches Pédagogiques (ISERP) in Walferdange.
