A French baritone born in Bordeaux in 1861, Maurice Renaud was known around the world for his fine vocal talents and acting abilities. He made his debut in London before undertaking numerous tours, performing in Saint Petersburg, Berlin and Monte-Carlo, where he sang in the premieres of two operas by Massenet, Le Jonglur de Notre Dame (1902) and Cherubin (1905). At the Monaco opera, he also performed the role of Mephistophleles in Berlioz's La Damnation in Faust, in 1902.
