About Federal Gardens

Fragrant commemorative stamp "Austrian Federal Gardens": Schönbrunn Palace Park with Great Palm House

The Schifinbrunn Palace Park depicted here is one of the seven listed historic Austrian Federal Gardens.

This particular stamp gives off the scent of flowers when you rub it.

Schönbrunn Palace Park was opened to the public in 1779 and is home to the Great Palm House, which was built in 1882 and was once considered the largest glass house in the world. Since the end of the Habsburg monarchy over 100 years ago, Schönbrunn Palace Park and the six other federal gardens have been owned by the Republic of Austria. Currently, they are assigned to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism. They are popular destinations for tourists, but locals also appreciate using them as public recreational areas. What makes this stamp so special? It has been finished with a special scented coating. When you rub the stamp, it gives off the scent of flowers and conveys the feeling of a springtime stroll through Schönbrunn Palace Park.

The seven former imperial gardens that are now part of the Federal Gardens include, in addition to Schönbrunn Palace Park, the Augarten, the Belvedere Gardens, the Burggarten and the Volksgarten in Vienna, as well as the lnnsbruck Court Garden and the park at Ambras Palace in Tyrol.

The new commemorative stamp "Austrian Federal Gardens" with a face value of EUR 4.30 will be issued 212,000 times in sheets of 50 and will be available at all post offices, at post.at/onlineshop and at Österreichische Post AG's Collector Service from 29 May.
