The postage stamp shows a fragment of a painting painted by J. Brandt (1867), in which the commander of the Lithuanian-Polish war, the famous Lithuanian state figure Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius rides on a white horse in the Battle of 1621. In the autumn at Khotyn (near the Dniester, Ukraine) under his leadership about 70 thousand the joint army of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth successfully repulsed the invasion of several times more Turkish and Crimean Tatar armies (about 220,000 troops) and thus gloriously stopped the power of the Ottoman Empire that threatened Central Europe. This year also marks the 400th anniversary of his death. He died this year of Battle.
