Since 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a symbol for further European integration and cooperation. These special stamps are issued by the postal administrations and companies of the old continent and bear the EUROPA logo, a registered trademark of PostEurop which, since 1993, has been the organization responsible for issuing these EUROPA stamps. Prior to that date, this work was carried out by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT by its acronym in French), created on June 26, 1959 as the coordinating body of the state telecommunications and postal organizations of Europe.
The EUROPA series stamps are intended to promote philately and contribute to the dissemination of culture, customs and history of the continent. It is one of the most collected and most popular series in the world.
With this special product, Correos commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Europa CEPT issue by reproducing the stamp issued on May 2, 1972. With an 8-peseta face, the mauve, yellow and red stamp was printed in rotogravure with a print run of 6,000,000 copies and 80 effects per sheet.
