About Personalities

The theologian born 200 years ago in Troisvierges was the first bishop of Luxembourg, serving from 1870 to 1883.

His official ordination in the cathedral on 25 December 1870 marked the high point of a long and fruitful career in the clergy.

He had already been sanctified as priest at the age of 26. At the beginning of 1863, at age 50, he became titular bishop of Halicarnassus and apostolic vicar of Luxembourg. Bearing this title, Nicolas Adames took part in the first Vatican Synod in Rome in 1869.

The apostolic vicariate of Luxembourg was elevated to the rank of Bishopric in June 1870, enabling Nicolas Adames to take over the episcopacy in the same year.

This author-composer-cabaret artist born in Colmar-Berg and famous throughout Luxembourg worked as a forest ranger for ARBED.

Known as the father of the Luxembourg “chanson”, he founded the “La Mansarde” cabaret, together with other artists, in 1915.

His most well-known pieces, famed for their pointed social critique, include “De schéine Poli”, “Neen, déi Schnëss!”, “D’Quiselchen”, and “Dem Wirsch seng Wueden”.
