About Museums Association 100 Years

There are more than 1,000 museums in Finland, 151 of which are professionally run. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Finnish Museums Association, Posti will issue stamps showcasing 10 different museums and three objects from each of their collections. The stamps present museums from different parts of the country, from Helsinki to Inari.

The museums to receive their own stamps are the Ski Museum, Music Museum Fame, the Automobile and Road Museum Mobilia, Leikki – the Museum of Play, Museum Centre Vapriikki, the Police Museum, Turku Museum Centre, the Finnish Glass Museum, the Sámi Museum Siida and the National Museum of Finland.

“We selected the museums and objects to be included in cooperation with Posti. The stamps showcase significant and otherwise noteworthy gems from the collections of cultural history museums and specialized museums,” says Miisa Pulkkinen, Head of Group Communications at the Finnish Museums Association.

The graphic design of the stamps is by Anssi Kähärä. “The project was challenging due to the multitude of subjects. It was a big puzzle, where the goal was to strike a balance between content and visuality. The clear concept helped me see the big picture at different stages of the design process,” Kähärä says.

The Finnish Museums Association represents, educates and develops the Finnish museum field and helps the museums to succeed. The association is particularly known for its Museum Card service, which has more than 250,000 active users.

“Museums are seeing a boom in visitor numbers after the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, museum visits were already close to seven million,” Pulkkinen says.

The Finnish Museums Association 100 Years stamp sheet contains 10 different domestic no-value indicator stamp designs.
