In 2000, William Joseph Dunlop OBE, better known simply as Joey Dunlop, arrived at the Isle of Man TT already the undisputed King of the Mountain. At the end of a fortnight of fast and furious motorcycle racing, he had defied critics and cemented his place in road racing and TT history by notching up another hattrick of wins. His victories that year took his all-time record to 26 TT wins – a total which would remain unbeaten for another 24 years.
Tragically, just the following month Joey would lose his life while racing in Estonia.
To mark 25 years since that remarkable hattrick of TT wins for the man from Ballymoney, the Isle of Man Treasury has issued this commemorative £2. It shows Joey in action at the Bungalow on board the iconic Honda SP1 as he headed towards a dramatic big bike win. He completed his hattrick later in the week with victories in the 250cc and 125cc classes.
The 12g, bi-metal coin not only celebrates Joey’s final TT wins, but also his legacy as an inspiration to generations of racers, riders and fans.
The Isle of Man £2 coin is presented in a specially designed display pack featuring an archive image of Joey in action from renowned road racing photographer Stephen Davison. It is being released as part of the 2025 Classic TT celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Joey Dunlop’s final and history-making TT wins.
