Mother's Day 2019
Throughout history, a day devoted to mothers was celebrated in various cultures in various ways. Everyone was sharing gratitude to the mothers who were carrying their child under their heart for nine months, gave birth and raised it with love. It was important to show mothers how much they are loved and appreciated.
At the beginning of the 20thcentury American Anna Jarvis launched an initiative to mark a day dedicated to mothers in honor of her mother Ann Reeves Jarvis who fought for emancipation of women and died on second Sunday in May. On her mother’s 2nddeath anniversary, she established Memorial Mother’s Day Meeting. She expressed love for her mother by giving her mother’s favorite flower – white carnation to all mothers in their local church.
Although her idea came to life, Ann Jarvis was disappointed by the commercialization of Mother’s Day and publicly called for gifts not to be bought but handmade because such a gift is a gift of attention. After the USA, the celebration of Mother’s Day spread all over the world when millions of people commemorate and thank the mothers for everything they did for their children. Because, mother’s love doesn’t have a price.
