About Janis Pauluks

On 2 September 2021 Latvijas Pasts issues the sixth stamp block in the series Outstanding Latvian Artists. The new release is devoted to the painter Jānis Pauļuks (1906–1984). It features motifs from the artist’s works held in the Latvian National Museum of Art and materials from the Misiņš Library of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia.

To mark the 115th anniversary of J. Pauļuks, Latvijas Pasts releases a two-stamp block dedicated to the artist in the series Outstanding Latvian Artists with a print run of 20,000 copies and a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies. The face value of each stamp is € 1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Lilija Dinere.

In the visual design of the stamp block and the cover the artist has used Zigurds Konstants’ monograph Jānis Pauļuks (2006), reproductions of paintings from the works of J. Pauļuks held in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art: Felicita raibā kleitiņā (Felicita in a Colourful Dress) (1943–1944), Felicita ar krellēm (Felicita with Beads) (1944) and the central parts of the triptych Saulkrasti (1976), as well as materials from the Misiņš Library of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia.
