About Earth Day - Crystal of the Mineral Zepter Quartz

Earth Day is an international day officially celebrated since 1992. During the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, a far-reaching program for promoting sustainable development was coordinated. In 2009, the UN General Assembly decided that it would be observed on April 22. The aim is to raise awareness among people about the natural environment and the wealth we possess.

Minerals are the product of natural processes and a natural homogeneous component of the Earth's crust. They are most commonly found in a solid crystalline state and form through the process of crystallization. Minerals can be crystallized, amorphous, or metamict. The term crystallized substance, or crystal, refers to the orderly arrangement of atoms in space within the sample. Amorphous minerals lack a regular internal structure, while metamict minerals were once crystalline but became amorphous due to the presence of a radioactive element in their structure.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is rich in minerals that can be found in various localities and geological environments. Particularly notable for its beauty is Zepter Quartz, featured on the stamp, which was found in Busovača. In the area covered by the Mostar Post, two associations are involved in promoting this topic – “Kreševski citrin" from Kreševo and the Croatian Mining-Geological Society Mostar.
