Many of Aotearoa New Zealand’s unique geological features can be explained by its placement on the boundary of the active Pacific-Australian plate boundary.

Almost all varieties of volcanoes can be found here - it’s no wonder that Māori speak of Rūaumoko, the earthbound god who causes the earth to shake and lava to erupt. Some lie dormant and some are active. Others are extinct - and in many cases, looks can be deceiving.
