About Ctt and Portugal at Expo 2025 Osaka - The Ocean as A Global Dialogue

Portugal joins the 161 countries that will be present at Expo 2025 Osaka, reinforcing its commitment to building a sustain- able and innovative future. Under the theme "Ocean, The Blue Dialogue", Portugal stands out at this World Expo as a nation deeply connected to the sea and the fundamental role it plays in protecting the ocean and promoting the blue economy.

This presence reflects the importance of the oceans in build- ing the future, addressing challenges such as climate change, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. In line with the central theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives", the Portugal Pavilion will present innovative solutions that combine the conservation of marine ecosystems with sus- tainable economic growth, positioning the country as a global leader in sustainability and environmental preservation.

To mark this historic participation, CTT has developed a spe- cial philatelic issue highlighting the Portugal Pavilion and the thousands of recycled maritime cables used to build it. This issue features illustrator Catarina Glam, who drew inspiration from the seabed and the imagery of Japanese animated films to illustrate the theme of Portugal.

Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the Portugal Pavilion invites visitors to dive in and discover the ocean. Located in the "Empowering Lives" area of the Expo 2025 Osaka site, the pavilion follows the concepts of sustainability and circular economy, in accordance with best technical and environmental practices.

With an expected 28.2 million visitors, of which 3.5 million are from abroad, this event offers Portugal a unique opportunity to raise its international profile. The Portugal Pavilion is expected to attract around 5% of visitors, offering an immersive experience that highlights the role of the ocean in humanity's sustainable future.
