The Red Book of Lithuania - Birds
About The Red Book of Lithuania - Birds
Kingfisher is a small but impressive bird, distinguished by its bright of feathers. Its back bluish green, and its belly is orange. Because of these colors, the Kingfisher is sometimes described as a bird resembling a jewel in appearance. These birds feed on small fish, which they catch by jumping into the water. In Lithuania, Kingfishers are rare, listed in the Lithuanian Red Book as an endangered species - habitat loss, water pollution and a lack of breeding sites have contributed to the decline in their population.
