Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland, celebrated its 100th anniversary on September 4, 2025. Founded in 1925 by 80 Inuit families from Tasiilaq under the guidance of Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen, the settlement is one of the most remote inhabited places on Earth.
To commemorate this milestone, Secret Atlas organized a special 14-day micro-cruise expedition titled “Northeast Greenland National Park Micro Cruise.” Departing on August 27, 2025, the voyage carried a maximum of 12 passengers and included centenary celebrations in Ittoqqortoormiit on September 4.
In addition to the cruise, Greenland Post issued a commemorative stamp designed by Ittoqqortoormiit native Pia Arke, further honoring the centenary.
Today, Ittoqqortoormiit remains a vibrant community of around 350 people, deeply connected to its Inuit heritage and the rhythms of Arctic life.
