Magyar Posta is issuing a pair of special stamps with different denominations and a numbered souvenir sheet with a surcharge to celebrate the 98th Stamp Day, which will be held in Szolnok between 22 and 27 September 2025. The new products were designed by the graphic artist Barnabás Baticz and printed by the banknote printing company Pénzjegynyomda, and can be purchased from Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 22 September 2025. Magyar Posta devotes the HUF 300 surcharge on each souvenir sheet to supporting organised stamp collecting in Hungary.
The HUNFILA 2025 – National Stamp Exhibition will be held between 22 and 27 September 2025 at the Aba-Novák Agóra Cultural Centre in Szolnok. The exhibition’s motto is “Bridge to Passion”, linking the past and present of stamp collecting. The 950th anniversary of Szolnok is included in the programme and is being presented as a special theme. The opening will take place in the afternoon of 22 September. The closing day is Stamp Day itself, which is a celebration of collectors, and several honours will be awarded. The exhibition will show Hungarian and international rarities, and postcards and letters related to Szolnok. The National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists is especially keen on fostering the interest of young people in stamp collecting, so school and kindergarten groups are welcome to participate in the organised children’s activities. A drawing competition has also been arranged, and the works submitted will be exhibited. Visitors will also have the opportunity to swap stamps, attend philatelic novelty presentations and participate in interactive activities, making HUNFILA 2025 both a cultural celebration and a marvellous gathering for collectors in Szolnok.
One of the special pair of stamps issued in honour of the 98th Stamp Day depicts the “blooming of the Tisza”, which is how the moment when the adult mayfly hatches on the surface of the river, usually in large numbers, immediately followed by mating, is called, while the other stamp shows the Szolnok meringue Isler in the foreground. The Reformed church in the evening light appears on the stamp of the souvenir sheet, while the Tisza Park promenade in autumn colours is featured in the frame of the sheet. The first day cover of the souvenir sheet shows the Szolnok Catholic church, while that of the pair of stamps depicts the County Hall and the Rose Park. The imprint of the special postmark on the first day cover is a composition combining the inscriptions 98th Stamp Day and Szolnok.
