On World Architecture Day, Magyar Posta is issuing a pair of special miniature sheets in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Transport. The two miniature sheets containing a total of 16 stamps were designed by Hedvig Kocsis and printed by the banknote printing company Pénzjegynyomda. The new issue goes on sale at Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 6 October 2025.
Hungarian contemporary architecture is an integral part of Hungarian culture and its outstanding works are deservedly a cause of pride. The stamp issue aims to take yet another step towards raising the prestige of Hungarian architecture and increasing respect for the profession.
The two miniature sheets depict the most important buildings of Hungarian contemporary architecture and structures that have been awarded prizes by the Ministry in the recent past. On the recommendation of the State Secretariat for Construction, the selection includes 16 merit-worthy edifices which conform with the principles of Act C of 2023 on Hungarian architecture and were constructed
or renovated in Hungary according to the designs of Hungarian architects acknowledged by the national and international profession through prestigious awards. The wide range of topics cover churches (the Holy Trinity church in Derekegyház, the Saint John Paul II church in Páty, the Saint Ladislaus church in Hollóháza, the Saint George church in Debrecen), sporting facilities (Puskás Arena, MET Arena), halls (Pécs Market Hall, Hungexpo main building), reconstructions and extensions (Normafa Ski House, Festetics Palace in Dég, Tisza Palace in Geszt), a cultural establishment (Museum of Ethnography), a winery (Sauska, Tokaj), a metro station (M4 line, station in Fővám Square), a hillside stone house (Badacsonytomaj) and a town spa (Hagymatikum in Makó). The buildings, the works of distinguished architects, have been inaugurated or renovated in the recent past.
The eight images on each of the miniature sheets show the aforementioned structures together with their name and designer. The church of Saint George in Debrecen features on the special first day cover. The composition in the design of the special postmark conveys the endeavour to strike a balance between the natural environment and the built environment, which reflects the legislator’s intention expressed in the statue mentioned above.
