The History of Black Butter
About The History of Black Butter
The History of Black Butter celebrates one of Jersey most loved preserve. The issue has been illustrated by Chris Wormell and includes a set of six stamps and a miniature sheet.
Black Butter is a traditional preserve with deep roots in the culinary and cultural history of Jersey, one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel. Despite its name, Black Butter does not contain any dairy butter. Instead, it’s a rich, dark apple spread, made with apples, cider, sugar, and spices. It has been a cherished part of island life for centuries, especially associated with the apple harvest and community gatherings.
