Architecture - Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences, 90th Anniversary
In 1934, at the initiative of a group of architects and engineers, the Institute of Construction and Building was founded in Spain as a private entity dedicated to the study and research in the field of construction and its materials.
In 1946, the Institute joined the Juan de la Cierva Trust of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and in 1949, it merged with the Cement Institute, created by the same Trust in 1947, thus forming the Technical Institute of Construction and Cement, under the direction of Eduardo Torroja. In 1961, upon the death of Eduardo Torroja, his name was incorporated into the official name of the Center, now the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences (IETcc).
Since its inception, the IETcc has played a fundamental role in the development and innovation of construction in Spain.
Throughout its 90-year history, the IETcc has evolved, adapting to the challenges of the sector and contributing significantly to research and development in three main areas:
Architecture: With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the institute has promoted advanced architectural solutions, optimizing the design of habitable and functional spaces.
Engineering: Leading research in complex structures, the IETcc has provided pioneering solutions that combine stability, efficiency, and innovative design.
Materials: By researching and developing new materials for construction, the institute has been key in the implementation of sustainable and high-performance solutions.
The research conducted at the IETcc has had a major impact not only in Spain but also internationally, making it a leading research center in the field of construction and civil engineering.
