The healing power of art
Mental health affects us all. That’s why building bridges is so important and art is one way we can achieve this. Inclusion means that everyone, whatever their differences or the challenges they face, can participate in social life as a matter of course and on an equal footing. It creates opportunities to showcase different abilities and personalities, enabling these traits to become an active part of community life.
Living Museum
The Living Museum, a nonprofit association based in Switzerland, provides the space for this. Its open studio offers a creative, free and unpressured environment where people with psychological challenges can work. Colours, sculptures and music fill the space, while artists of all ages and abilities come together to collaborate. This creative process has a healing effect and fosters a sense of belonging.
From canvas to stamp
Four individuals who have faced similar challenges had their artworks selected for Swiss Post’s new special stamps. All the works were produced physically, some as impressively large images. On the following pages, the four artists discuss what painting and designing means to them.
