About 100 Years Of Croatian Radiotelevision (C)

Marking the 100th anniversary of its existence, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) confirms its exceptional and lasting role in the cultural, social and public life of the Republic of Croatia. Since the first radio call that started its history, Croatian Radiotelevision has grown into the central public media service, inextricably linked with the development of Croatian society and its institutions. Over a century, Croatian Radiotelevision has been and remains a reliable witness to the times and an active participant in pivotal events, shaping a common space of information, culture and public dialogue. As a public service, it always focuses on the interest of citizens: to inform accurately and timely, to educate and foster knowledge, to nurture artistic creativity, and to preserve and promote the Croatian language, identity and cultural heritage.

Developing together with technology and society, HRT today acts as a modern, multimedia institution that combines radio, television and digital platforms in a single communication space. Its program includes a variety of content – from informational and educational to cultural, entertainment and sports – that reaches audiences in Croatia and beyond on a daily basis, confirming HRT's wide availability and lasting relevance.

The special value of Croatian Radiotelevision is reflected in its rich archival heritage, which testifies to decades of creativity and social changes and includes about 250,000 hours of audio-visual recordings, 100,000 hours of radio recordings, 30,000 music sheets and 30,000 books. This heritage is not only a record of the past, but also a lasting source of inspiration through which generations of viewers, listeners and followers connect in a common experience.

There are also numerous music units and bands within HRT. These include the Symphony, Tamburitza and Jazz Orchestras, as well as the Croatian Radiotelevision Choir, whose activities in the country and abroad permanently promote Croatian music culture. Croatian Radiotelevision broadcasts four national television channels, three national radio stations, eight regional radio stations and the international program Voice of Croatia. In addition to linear programming, HRT broadcasts its content on digital platforms, which further strengthens its role as a modern public media service in the new century of its activity.

With the development of digital platforms, new formats and technological solutions, content becomes available on demand and adapted to modern ways of consumption, thus achieving a stronger connection with the audience and its needs. At the same time, HRT remains true to the core values of public activity – independence, accountability and acting in the public interest. In a time of constant change, HRT's strength stems from its ability to connect tradition and modernity by creating content that simultaneously informs, inspires and brings together.

The 100th anniversary of Croatian Radiotelevision is therefore not only a celebration of its longevity, but also a confirmation of its lasting significance. As a media organization that observes, records and shapes society, HRT remains permanently present in the lives of its viewers, listeners and followers – as a voice of trust, a space of community and a guardian of the public word.
