San Marino, 31 July 2026 – Some days are destined to enter history. The visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Republic of San Marino, scheduled for Saturday 22 August, is one of them.
An occasion of extraordinary spiritual and institutional significance, opening a new chapter in relations between the Holy See and the ancient Republic, in the spirit of dialogue and fraternity. An event destined to become part of San Marino’s collective memory. To preserve the memory of this day, Poste San Marino presents two commemorative issues: a stamp and a coin, created to celebrate a page in the history of the Titano and to pass it on through two objects of great symbolic and collector value.
The commemorative miniature sheet, also available in an elegant folder, is created by the artist Francesca Protopapa, who sensitively interprets the arrival of the Holy Father on Mount Titano, welcomed by Saint Marinus, founder of the Republic. Through the language of art, the work conveys the profound meaning of a visit destined to leave a mark on the history of San Marino. The issue will be available in 20,000 copies, and each sheet will contain a stamp with a value of 2.90 euros. The visit of Pope Leo XIV takes on an even more special significance because it marks the return of a Pontiff to Mount Titano fifteen years after the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in 2011, and coincides with the Centenary of relations between the Republic of San Marino and the Holy See. Two anniversaries that make 2026 a year of particular importance in the history of relations between the two States.
