Madrid is hosting the 30th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government a gathering that brings together the 22 countries comprising the Ibero-American Community and serves as a key forum for dialogue, coordination, and cooperation.
The history of these summits began in 1991 in Guadalajara, Mexico. That initial meeting laid the foundation for a shared project, rooted in the historical and cultural ties that unite its members and in a commitment to establish a permanent framework for collaboration among Ibero-American nations.
Since then, the summits have periodically brought together the heads of state and government from the 19 Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of Latin America, alongside Spain, Portugal, and Andorra. Since 2014, they have been held biennially, addressing major challenges shared by the region in areas such as the economy, education, culture, innovation, the environment, and sustainable development.
The 2026 Madrid summit marks a significant milestone: its 30th edition an occasion that also coincides with the 35th anniversary of the inception of the Ibero-American Summits.
Madrid previously hosted the second Ibero-American Summit in 1992 and is also home to the General Secretariat, the body that promotes and coordinates cooperation within the Community.
To mark this important international event, Correos (the Spanish postal service) is issuing a commemorative stamp. Its design highlights the number 30 a central element of the summit’s visual identity, representing the thirty editions held since its creation. Also featured is the Puerta de Alcalá, one of Madrid’s most iconic monuments, which identifies the host city and creates a visual link between the stamp and the event’s location.
