About Icelandic Contemporary Design VII – Ceramics design

Ceramics design is the theme of the seventh stamp series dedicated to contemporary Icelandic design.

Ólöf Erla Bjarnadóttir designed the work Jarðlög (Sediments). Ólöf Erla graduated from the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts in 1982. She has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions with other artists. Ólöf has received various awards for her art. Along with nine other artists she runs the shop Kirsuberjatréð (the Cherry Tree) in Reykjavík.

Guðbjörg Káradóttir and Ólöf Jakobína Ernudóttir form the team Postulina which designed the dinner service Jökla. Guðbjörg graduated as a ceramics designer from the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts in 1994 and from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2002. Ólöf Jakobína studied design in Italy and graduated as an interior designer from Istituto Superiore di Architettura in Milan in 1996.

Hanna Dís Whitehead designed the artwork “Samtal“ (Dialog). Hanna Dís graduated in product design cum laude from Design Academy Eindhoven in Holland. Hanna Dís has participated in numerous exhibitions and was nominated in the category “New Talent” on Iceland’s behalf in European Ceramic Context which is a part of a bicentennial for European ceramics.

The designer team Borðið (The Table) designed “Leirpottur“ (Clay Pot) using Icelandic clay. The team consists of Brynhildur Pálsdóttir, Guðfinna Mjöll Magnúsdóttir and the clay factory Leir 7 owned by Sigríður Erla Guðmundsdóttir. Sigríður Erla graduated from the ceramics department of the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts in 1990. Brynhildur graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2004 and from Gerrit Rietveld Academy 2005. Guðfinna Mjöll Magnúsdóttir graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2004.
