Regions and Towns III, Kapuvar, Mateszalka
The two new stamps in Magyar Posta’s series on the subject of Regions and Towns in 2019 feature Mátészalkaand Kapuvár, both celebrating their 50th anniversary of becoming a town. As well as showing some main sights, the composition of the stamps allows the position of the towns to be indicated on the map of Hungary. One hundred and twenty thousand copies of the stamps designed by the graphic artist Imre Benedek were produced by ANY Security Printing Company.
The stamp of Kapuvár shows the bronze statue “The BreadCutter” by Pál Pátzay in the centre of the town with the church ofSaint Anne in the background. The first day cover depicts theformer Esterházy Palace, which functions as the Town Halltoday. In addition to the mayor’s office and the district office, thebuilding also houses the Rábaközi Museum.
The stamp of Mátészalka depicts the Szentpétery ZsigmondCultural Centre and Theatre with the Fountain of the SevenChieftains by Lajos Bíró in the foreground. The first day coveralso employs a work by the same sculptor, Boy Holding an Oil Lamp.
The graphics of the special postmarks used the coats of arms of the towns.
