About Ethnological Treasure - Charcoal Iron

Ethnology is a specific science that deals with the study of human society and culture. In addition to historical forms of peasant culture (the peasantry was the bearer and the guardian of folk culture until the middle of the 20th century), today ethnology also studies the modern way of life and the culture of human societies. The Croatian Post Mostar traditionally issues postage stamps with the motive of ethnological treasures in order not to preserve our past.

In the beginning, clothing arose from the human need to protect the body from external influences. Over time it became a sign of civilization, and then the need to beautify the appearance arose. With time, along with many aids used to make clothes look better, the iron appeared. In the 1st century BCE, the Chinese used metal trays filled with ember, and in the early sixteenth century the use of triangular thick cast iron plates emerged. The American Mary Florence Potts, invented a clothes iron with a detachable handle in the 19th ct. Later came irons that were heated by accumulating heat on stoves or were heated from the inside by embers and fuels. The first electric iron was patented by the American Henry W. Seeley in 1882.
