About International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development

On January 30, 2023 the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic puts into circulation a 2022 Kyrgyz Express Post postage stamp: "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" - the longest stamp in the world.

At the initiative of Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the United Nations declared 2022 the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. The corresponding resolution was adopted unanimously at the plenary meeting of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The new issue of KEP postage stamps is dedicated to this significant event. What makes this issue special is the fact that the stamp to be put into circulation, being 184 mm in width, is the longest postage stamp in the world. The postal miniature represents the Chaar-Tash Range, Toguz-Toro Tract, Kazarman village. The coupon of the miniature sheet shows the Besh-Tash Gorge, the lake with the same name, the Tuyuktor Range and the Itagar Pass.

Kyrgyzstan is predominantly a mountainous country. Almost 90% of the country's territory is located at an altitude of more than 1500 meters above sea level. Some peaks exceed a height of 7000 meters. Therefore, the Kyrgyz Republic is naturally interested in the development of mountain systems and the improvement of their ecological state. In 2002, the First Bishkek Global Mountain Summit was held. At this Summit was adopted the Bishkek Mountain Platform, which clearly indicated how mountainous regions should develop on a global scale. Kyrgyzstan has become a leader in promoting ideas for the development of mountainous areas, bringing together various UN structures and dozens of world institutions to study the existing problems of mountainous regions and find solutions. Confirming its world leadership in the field of mountain-related problems, Kyrgyzstan submitted a new resolution to the UN on the implementation of a five-year program for sustainable mountain development and on holding the Second Bishkek Global Mountain Summit

For this stamp, KEP also issues a postcard, which is used to realize a maximum card.
