Sharks
Sharks are one of the most fascinating and misunderstood creatures in the marine world. As apex predators, they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. These majestic creatures have been swimming in the Earth's oceans for more than 400 million years, making them one of the oldest surviving species on the planet.
Unfortunately, sharks are often portrayed as dangerous and aggressive creatures, primarily due to media sensationalism and misconceptions. While some shark species can be potentially dangerous to humans, shark attacks are relatively rare, and most sharks do not pose a threat to people.
One of the significant challenges facing sharks is overfishing. Sharks are often targeted for their fins, which are used in traditional Asian dishes like shark fin soup. This practice, known as shark finning, has led to a severe decline in shark populations worldwide. Additionally, bycatch in fishing nets and habitat destruction also threaten shark populations.
