Greenlandic Dog Sleds
About Greenlandic Dog Sleds
The development of the dog sled in Greenland has been ongoing for millennia. Indeed, Greenlanders have been riding dog sleds for more than 4,000 years. Historically, the dog sled was the only means of transport when Greenlanders were hunting in the mountains or out on the ice for fish, seals, Greenland sharks, small whales or polar bears.
The dog sled depicted on these two stamps by the artist Konrad Nuka Godtfredsen is the West Greenland type. This series featuring Greenlandic dog sleds will continue for the next two years.
