About Tofig Bahramov 100 Years

Tofig Bahramov (1925–1993) was a famous Azerbaijani football referee and sports official. He became renowned worldwide for his decision as a linesman in the final match of the 1966 FIFA World Cup (England vs. Germany). His confirmation of a controversial goal, which was ruled as having crossed the goal line, contributed to England’s victory.

Tofig Bahramov officiated for many years during the Soviet era and was a FIFA referee. He also served as the Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Football Federation. In his honor, the main stadium in Baku was named the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium.
