About Gold Stamp - Fibula from Dorestad
In 1969, an 8.5 cm fibula was found in a well from the Dorestad period, where Wijk bij Duurstede is now located. Designer Maud van Rossum selected this cloak pin, dating from around 800 AD, for her "Fibula of Dorestad" stamp sheet. PostNL released this stamp sheet on May 9th in conjunction with the "National Archaeological Discoveries" theme chosen by the collaborating European postal companies for 2025.
The fibula is made of gold, which naturally called for the issuance of a gold postage stamp.
