About Christmas Seals

Town and Village Scenes from the Faroe Islands
What has always fascinated me are the Faroese villages and old town areas with their colourful and historic houses. I am also drawn to beautiful and distinctive buildings they evoke deep emotions and memories of times past, while also sparking curiosity to hear more old stories from the Faroe Islands.

I love colourful houses, especially red ones. My grandmother in Klaksvík had a red house with blue windows just like the old bakery in Tórshavn. There are also other places that are close to my heart and hold great meaning for us Faroese people. Every village has its own unique character.

My artistic style is detailed and lively, aiming to capture both the architecture and the natural surroundings of each motif.
About the artist colours have always been part of her lifeThe Faroese artist Fríða Laksáfoss has designed this year’s Christmas seals. As a child, it was not dolls or traditional toys that interested Fríða most it was coloured pencils and paint. She would sit and draw or paint for hours, and art soon became a safe, warm space and an important part of her everyday life.

As an adult, Fríða studied Business Administration (Cand.merc. HRM) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS).

Even though she chose a different professional path, she never let go of her paints and brushes. Art remained an inner language something she always needed to express and give space to.

Fríða lived abroad for many years in Australia and Denmark but every time she returned to the Faroe Islands, she felt something truly special. The Faroese landscape, the villages, the old town areas, and the colourful houses touched her deeply and awakened memories and emotions. This connection is a recurring theme in her artwork. She describes the feeling like this:“Do you know that feeling when, as a child, you came into your grandmother’s house after sledding, and she welcomed you with hot cocoa and freshly baked buns? That is exactly the warm feeling I get when I paint the colourful houses, villages, and old streets.”

Today, Fríða continues to create art in her own way with deep respect for her roots and with colours that carry both childhood joy and a longing for home.

The proceeds from the sale go to the Christmas Seal Fund, which supports activities for children and young people in the Faroe Islands.
