By Resolution No. 283 dated July 20, 1972 of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Mongolia, the “Bayan Mongol” Ensemble of the State Committee for Information, Radio and Television and the “Soyol Erdene” Music Band of the State Folk Song and Dance Ensemble were united, and the Mongolian Philharmonic was founded on the initiative of the State Premium Laureate and People’s Artist Namsrayjav Tsegmid. The State Philharmonic held its opening concert on October 25, 1972 at the State Musical Dramatic /Opera/Dance/ Theater.
Today, the Mongolian Philharmonic is a musical institution with over 160 artists and employees, including the “Symphony Orchestra”, the State Premium Laureate “Bayan Mongol” Big Band, and the “Morin Khuur” Ensemble” decorated with the Order of Chinggis Khaan.
