About World Heritage - Monuments of Oviedo and kingdom of Asturias

A philatelic and numismatic folder shows us Asturian art and its landscape.

Santa María del Naranco, declared a National Monument in 1885 and as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, inscribed with other Asturian pre-Romanesque monuments with the name "Churches of the Kingdom of Asturias", in 1985.

Considered to be the most important monument preserved in European medieval art, both for its intrinsic value and for the roads it opened to all subsequent art.

Built as a pleasure palace, in Spanish pre-Romanesque art, its exquisite design and construction quality, it surprises in a building of the 9th century. It is hard to imagine how the architect and his workshop were able to amalgamate knowledge and styles to build this monument on that date and in that place.

A perfect work for its time that visually produces a great sense of stony verticality. It is possible to find antecedents of practically all the known world in that time, being a sculptural group so varied and at the same time so homogeneous in spite of including that diversity of influences. Complex and original set not found precedents.

Folder closed in a triptych of size 21x29.70 cm with the church windows stamped, with central spine, that when opening it introduces us into the impressive Asturian landscape and shows the magnitude of the monument honored.

It contains two philatelic elements protected in mounts and also a coin protected in a blister.
