PRE-ORDER Gustaf Erikson Shipping Company Archives

The stamp pays tribute to the maritime archive of the Åland shipowner Gustaf Erikson (1872–1947), which has been on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register since 2023. The stamp also bears the UNESCO logo.

The Rederi Ab Gustaf Erikson archive is considered an invaluable source of knowledge about the last days of commercial sailing, and covers the period from 1913 to 1947. The archive contains, among other things, logbooks, photographs, accounting documents, telegrams and letters from officers, many with Erikson's own notes in the margins.

The stamp motif highlights the shipowner himself, his first ship Tjerimai and the extensive archive. The middle part of the stamp sheet shows Gustaf Erikson's notes on a letter from the captain of the Archibald Russell.

The designation Världen on the stamp indicates a specific value when you use it to send a letter or card. This value corresponds to the current postage for a shipment weighing up to 20 grams and sent by Priority from Åland to the whole world.
