About Anniversaries - 80 Years of the United Nations

In a world marked by increasingly complex global challenges, international cooperation and commitment to peace, human rights, and sustainable development are more necessary than ever. The United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945 after the devastation of World War II, as a global commitment to “save future generations from the scourge of war.” Eighty years after its creation, this anniversary reaffirms the importance of its role as a forum for dialogue, cooperation, and multilateral action in the service of the international community.

Its work translates into concrete actions that directly impact millions of lives. The UN assists and protects more than 139 million people fleeing war, hunger, and persecution, and provides food and humanitarian aid to 123 million people in more than 120 countries and territories.

Through its agencies, programs, and missions, the organization promotes access to education, health, and equality. It provides vaccines to 45% of the world's children and helps save nearly three million lives each year. The UN also addresses global challenges such as climate change, the global water crisis, which affects more than 4 billion people, and persistent inequalities.

In the area of peace and security, the United Nations maintains peacekeeping operations with more than 61,000 personnel deployed in 11 missions in different regions of the world, while promoting preventive diplomacy and supporting numerous countries in their electoral processes. In addition, it protects and promotes human rights through more than 80 international treaties and declarations.

Over the past eight decades, the UN has established itself as an international benchmark in the search for shared solutions, fostering understanding between peoples and building a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future for present and future generations.

Correos is joining in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations with the issue of a commemorative stamp that highlights the organization's history and work, as well as its contribution to peace and international cooperation.

With this stamp, Correos pays tribute to eight decades of global commitment and recalls the importance of solidarity, dialogue, and multilateralism as fundamental pillars for addressing the challenges of today's world.
