2026150th Anniversary of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza - Set

The year 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the *Institución Libre de Enseñanza* (ILE—Free Institution of Education) by a group of professors including Francisco Giner de los Ríos and other intellectuals who had faced disciplinary action for defending the freedom of education. The ILE was closely linked to an international movement that envisioned human progress through a new, emancipatory, and solidarity-based approach to education. Today, the ILE continues to promote the values inherent in its tradition: the appreciation and stewardship of our shared natural and cultural heritage; the defense of peace and human rights; tolerance and dialogue; and equality, solidarity, and inclusion. These values form the foundation for democratic coexistence and the development of a cosmopolitan citizenry.
