Scenic Definitives

Since the passage of the Marine Reserves Act 1971, Aotearoa New Zealand has established 44 marine reserves to protect marine life.

These areas, which extend up to 12 nautical miles from the high tide line, have all been given the highest level of marine protection. Within these boundaries, animals, plants, shells and rocks are protected and may not be harmed or removed.

As long as nothing is taken, visitors to these beautiful locations are welcome to enjoy sailing, kayaking, swimming and diving.
