About EUROPA - 70 Years Of Europa Stamps

The members of the Association of European Public Postal Operators (PostEurop) issue stamps on the same theme each year and, in 2026, the theme is “70 years of EUROPA Stamps – United in...”. The “EUROPA stamp” is one of the most popular themes for collectors and issues bearing the official logo are among the most sought-after new stamps. The theme of the 70th anniversary series issued by member states in 2026 focuses on the unity and cooperation among European countries on their stamps. The Hungarian miniature sheet consisting of two pairs of stamps was designed by the graphic artist Krisztina Maros and 20,000 copies of it were produced by the banknote printing company Pénzjegynyomda Zrt. The new issue will be available at first day post offices and Filaposta in Hungary from 10 April 2026, but may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store.

The 2026 EUROPA stamp, coordinated by PostEurop, spotlights the shared values of European countries, and, in order to implement the stamp jointly, a design competition for member countries was announced. This allowed each postal operator to enter the competition with its own stamp design, and the postal services of the member countries voted to decide which design would appear on the common 2026 EUROPA stamp of all member countries.

One of the two stamps of the miniature sheet issued by Magyar Posta is the Hungarian entry, while the other is the winning design submitted by Posti Finland and created by graphic artist Klaus Welp. The Hungarian entry depicts different coloured, stylised human figures which closely intertwine to form a group that symbolises togetherness and the power of community. The design on the joint stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, represent the perforation of a stamp and symbolise seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent. The background reflects the joyful mix of colours from the European flags, symbolising the unity of all member nations.
