First Holidays

This collection is Israel's first Holidays issue, released September 26, 1948, celebrating the High Holy Days. Five stamps (3m–65m) depict symbolic motifs including the shofar, a lulav and etrog, and related imagery. Singles without tabs are widely collected as an affordable classic of early Israel. This was the first Israeli thematic commemorative series.

Tabs on the Holidays issue bear Hebrew blessings or holiday greetings, adding thematic appeal. A complete tab set in never-hinged condition anchors any Interim Period Israel collection. Values are significantly higher than singles; condition of the tab itself is critical to value.
