About 100 Years of Football Club Borac, Banjaluka

The first page of golden story of Borac was written on July 4, 1926. That Sunday, about fifty football fans arrived at the “Putnik” café at Fra Grge Martica Street 1, to hold the founding assembly of the Workers’ Sports Club Borac. According to a Banja Luka legend, which has been passed down from generation to generation, the name of our club was given by Veselin Maslesa, who during a discussion about the name that should be given to the club, famously said:

“If you are fighting, if you are going to fight, for your workers’ rights, why shouldn’t your club be called Borac!” said Maslesa.

Thus, the Borac Football Club got a name that would determine its sporting destiny. It has never backed down and nothing has broken it in these hundred years of existence. The "Giant from Platonova Street" has come a long way to become one of the greatest symbols of Banja Luka. Great victories are remembered, but also painful defeats that made Borac even stronger. The "red and blue" boasts numerous successes in its history, and one of the greatest is winning the Yugoslav Cup in 1988.

The club's treasury also holds a European trophy - the Mitropa Cup won in 1992. Today, FK Borac boasts four championship titles of the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a Cup of Bosnia and Herzegovina trophy, five championship titles of the Republic of Srpska, and has won the Cup of the Republic of Srpska "Dr. Milan Jelic" eight times. It is also remembered for its great European success and unforgettable 1740 minutes in European competitions, during the 2024/25 season when FC Borac reached the round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League. FK Borac has been the pride of Banja Luka and all its supporters since the first day, and numerous generations of football champions have grown up at the City Stadium, who have left a deep mark on the city on the Vrbas with their work.

The "Giant from Platonova" has long since become more than just a football club in Banja Luka. Borac is a matter of home upbringing and love that is acquired from an early age, and lasts forever.

Borac's football story is written in golden pages, and is permeated with the widely famous phrase:

"It is important to be a fighter in life!"

It has been that way since day one, and it will be that way as long as the Vrbas flows through Banja Luka.
